In the heart of our community stands Surau Al Hafij, a place of worship and gathering that has long served as a spiritual beacon for residents. However, as the years have passed, the mosque has become worn and outdated, lacking the comfort, functionality, and aesthetic appeal needed to truly meet the needs of its worshippers and visitors. In response to this, the "Unity in Renewal" project has been initiated, aiming to revitalize Surau Al Hafijinto a welcoming and inclusive community hub that celebrates our shared heritage while embracing the future.

The renovation of an old mosque presents an opportunity to breathe new life into its interior, transitioning from a typical spatial layout to one that promotes airiness and spaciousness. By embracing principles of light, openness, and flow, we can create a sanctuary that uplifts worshippers and fosters a sense of peace and tranquility. One of the most effective ways to enhance the feeling of airiness and spaciousness in a mosque is by maximizing the use of natural light. This can be achieved by introducing large windows, skylights, and clerestory openings that allow daylight to flood into the prayer hall. Removing barriers between the interior and exterior, such as decorative screens or partitions, further facilitates the penetration of light, creating a luminous and uplifting atmosphere that inspires contemplation and connection.
The choice of colors and finishes can significantly impact the perceived spaciousness of an interior space. Light, neutral colors, such as white, cream, and pale shades of blue or green, help to reflect light and create a sense of airiness and expansiveness. Glossy or reflective surfaces, such as polished marble floors, mirrored accents, and metallic finishes, further enhance the luminosity and depth of the space, bouncing light around the room and visually expanding its boundaries. Additionally, incorporating natural materials, such as wood, stone, and woven textiles, adds warmth and texture, balancing the sleekness of reflective surfaces with organic elements.
